 ROLAND VALENTINO

Roland Valentino started singing at 4 years old and drove his family crazy by locking himself in the family bathroom and singing the hits of the day non-stop! His singing ability evidently came from his musician dad who sang and played guitar in upscale clubs in Manila, Philippines where he was born. At 9 years old, Roland sang in many festivities in Honolulu and became a familiar face/voice during these affairs. At 13, his parents migrated to the mainland and Roland continued to sing every chance he got whether it was during school musicals or talent shows.

At age 20, Valentino secured a recording contract with Villar Records USA by winning the Best Singer Award during a Philippines Talent Search. Before winning the top prize, Roland attended California State University at Los Angeles and majored in theatre. He was in the musical Grease, among many other college productions. He also starred as a dancer performing with The Thalians and shared the stage with actresses Ruta Lee and Debbie Reynolds. Roland has also performed aboard cruise lines and the stages of Las Vegas.

Winning commendations from the Los Angeles County supervisors for donating his time and talent to the VETERANS OF FOREIGN WARS, Roland has performed at the Los Angeles Convention Center, Pomona Fairplex and the Anaheim, Las Vegas and Del Mar convention centers during the Philippine Expos. He has been the featured singer during the Christmas celebration of the Huntington Beach Dodge’s annual Christmas Party (Huntington Beach, CA).

When not in front of the microphone, Roland is a busy professional audio engineer for V-CORP in Covina, CA. Jazz legend, Dini Clarke, calls Roland “one of the best master engineers today and a major talent.” Arthur Hamilton has called him "a truly fine singer" and the late, Ray Evans, for whom Roland recorded and mastered 6 songs (Ray co-wrote with LAWIM member, Gale Stoddard) called him "a talented singer with the most exquisite phrasing, and a very skilled audio engineer.” Roland’s vocals were featured on ABC World News Tonight singing the Evans/Stoddard collaboration “Christmas In Brazil” with Brian Rooney commenting at the end "This might just be the next Christmas Classic!”

Still under contract with Villar Records USA, Roland is currently recording a new CD geared for the Filipino audience. This will be his first Tagalog language album singing songs written by the most celebrated composers and lyricists of Philippine Music. His latest Spanish album, titled SOLO, is enjoying brisk sales. As an accomplished songwriter, Roland has won an ASCAP Plus Award four years in a row. Roland is also a gifted guitarist and organist. His original songs can be heard on radio DWBR in the Philippines, Asia, Australia and Europe radio stations. "Enjoy The Season" a song he co-wrote and sang has received radio airplay in Germany during the holidays.

Not bad for a shy, soft-spoken Filipino boy who used to sell newspapers on Manila streets to movie stars and recording artists! Now the same people are inviting him to their homes giving him feasts fit for a KING!

Roland was the Mastering Engineer for the LAWIM 2007-2008 Soirée Compilation CD.
